The mid-week pre-season friendly game between the CofE and the Spectator ended in a 1:0 victory for the Anglicans. Virtually a rematch of the last time they played in 2002, and without their leading goal scorers, the Anglicans nevertheless won a second time.
The final score reflects the inexperience of the home side playing against a much more experienced and coordinated team used to playing at an international level.
The only goal of the match was the result of a penalty after the Spectator striker, playing way out alone on the right wing, was seen to handle the ball.
The game was largely free of incidents, on or off the pitch, and was watched by one of the largest crowds of the season. The two teams are expected to meet each other again later in the year.
