In 1962, John F Kennedy said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
In September 2011, the United Nations will test that premise. It can legitimise an independent, sovereign and contiguous Palestinian State on the June 1967 borders. In so doing, it can secure peace with justice for both Israelis and Palestinians.
But if Britain and Europe abstain or join the United States and Israel in opposing the inalienable right to self determination for the Palestinians, more is at stake than the Two State, Road-Map to Peace, previously endorsed by the UN, USA, Russia and Europe.
The delegitimisation of the State of Palestine will fuel calls for the delegitimisation of the State of Israel. If the 1967 borders are no longer recognised what is there to stop those who do not recognise the 1948 borders?
